Questions

What are the photo requirements for a green card?

The USCIS instructions for Form I-485 ask for two identical color passport-style photos, taken recently: 2 by 2 inches, white to off-white background, full face looking straight at the camera, head 1 to 1⅜ inches tall, printed on thin glossy paper, unmounted and unretouched.

What size is a green card photo?

2 × 2 inches, with your head 1 to 1⅜ inches tall and a plain white or off-white background. These are the same measurements as a U.S. passport photo.

How many photos do I need?

Form I-485 asks for two identical photos. Other USCIS forms can ask for a different number, so check the instructions for your form. Our 4×6 print sheet has two.

What do I write on the back of the photos?

USCIS says to lightly print your name and A-Number (if you have one) on the back of each photo, using a pencil or felt pen.

Do you edit or retouch my photo?

No. The U.S. Department of State says not to change your photo with software, apps, filters or artificial intelligence. We only check your photo and crop it to the official size. We never smooth skin, change the background or alter your face.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Your photo is checked and prepared on your own phone or computer. It is never uploaded to our servers.

How do I print it at CVS, Walgreens or Walmart?

Download the 4×6 print sheet and order it as a normal 4×6 photo print (choose "actual size"). Each sheet has two 2×2 inch photos to cut out. The State Department asks for matte or glossy photo paper.
